What is Stick Man on stage about?

Touching, funny and utterly original, Freckle Productions’ delightful adaptation of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s Stick Man is back on stage! What starts off as a morning jog becomes quite the misadventure for Stick Man: a dog wants to play fetch with him, a swan builds a nest with him, and he even ends up on a fire! How will Stick Man ever get back to the family tree in time for Christmas?

This award-winning production, from the team behind Zog and Zog and The Flying Doctors features a trio of top actors and is packed full of puppetry, songs, live music and funky moves.


What age range is the show suitable for?

3+ but all ages are welcome.

Stick Man is a great show for all the family – children, parents and grandparents can all enjoy being part of Stick Man’s heartwarming and memorable journey back to the family tree. Does the show tour nationally, regionally, or internationally?

In 2026, Stick Man will be doing seasons at the Bloomsbury Theatre in London and The Montgomery in Sheffield.

How long does the show typically stay at each venue?

The show can stay at a venue from anything from 2 days to a longer stint of 1 month. Check out your local venue’s show times to find out.

FAMILY & ACCESSIBILITY

Are children under 2 allowed to attend?

Yes, all are welcome at Stick Man! We recommend ages 3+ for our shows - however, we understand that parents/guardians may want to bring a younger child or sibling, so they will be allowed into the theatre. In many venues, children aged 2 and below are free if sitting on a parent or guardian’s lap.


Are there relaxed, BSL, captioned, or accessible performances?

Yes, we do offer BSL, captioned, relaxed and accessible performances throughout the tour. This is dependent on the venue and the length of time Stick Man is playing at each venue. Please check venue specific websites for more info.


Are booster seats available at venues?

Most of the venues will have booster seats available, but you should check your venue's specific website for confirmation.

What songs are in the show?

The show features original and catchy songs by Benji Bower with musical direction by Brian Hargreaves.


Are the songs in Stick Man similar to those in Zog the musical?

The songs in Stick Man are joyful and catchy like the songs in Zog the musical, but the slight distinction is that the Stick Man songs were written by Benji Bower. The songs in the Zog production are by Joe Stilgoe. However, both shows share the playful, rhyming songs that the audience love.

Will I like Stick Man if I liked The Gruffalo?

Yes, if you are a fan of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s fantastic story The Gruffalo, then you will also love their story Stick Man for its morals, heart and humour.


Do I need to have read the book in order to watch the show?

No, you do not need to have read the book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler in order to enjoy the live stage show of Stick Man.
